Friends in Faith Weekly Updates 9.10.07

Friends in Faith,

Welcome back to the all new fall season of FIF! If you missed homecoming Sunday today, you missed a great service.

Next week the whole church, us included, will be back to our regular programming schedule. As per our vote, the start time for class on Sunday morning will be 9:30 AM in the usual room (south end of the third floor, at the end of the short hallway by the nursery).

We'll talk about what direction we want to take in our studies and talk about what service and social activities we've thought up over the summer, and anything else you want to talk about. Some ideas for studies I have thought about have been going back to another Bible Study or something something a little different like The Gospel According to the Simpsons or St. Paul Returns to the Movies. Also, I have a few ideas of social activities we can do but I'm blanking out on service stuff, so I'm eager to hear your ideas.

Hi guys-
Just wanted to share the good news that we got a letter from Francisco and mom. Here's what they write:

April 02nd, 2007

Dear Rofum Friends In Faith,
How are you doing? It's with lots of pleasure that I write you for Wandim.

My son got really happy with the beautiful birthday card you sent him. He says he'll stick the stickers on his notebook.

Wanderson insisted on having a birtday cake to celebrate his 5th birthday. He's very communicative; he loves to sing and to talk to everyone he knows.

He loves to play soccer with his uncle Paulo in his free time. Sometimes he wants me to play with him.

Friends In Faith Weekly Updates 5.07.07

Hola Friends,
Happy belated Cinco De Mayo.

We had a good representation in class this week, but just in case you missed it, here's the scoop...

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT CLASS:
School's out for summer! That's right, due to conflicting schedules, there will be no more FIF this month.
Look for announcements about next season's classes, to begin again after Labor Day.

BTW> We deliberated yesterday about the best format for next year's "Sunday" school. It may be an evening thing on a weeknight, it may not be at the church... details are still very up in the air. However, we have all summer to make a plan, so stay tuned.

Hi there-
If you weren't in class yesterday, you missed a delicious breakfast outside at Pronto! And we missed you. We hope you'll join us in class for the next three weeks (that's right, only 3 weeks left). We have much to discuss, like:

A new format/time/location for class next season...?
The discontinuation of adopt a child...?
Picking a date for guys/girls night out
Picking our next service project goldurnit!
The second half of the Sermon on the Mount

Join us! I'll be bringing breakfast, so you won't starve. And the future of FIF is in your hands - we need you.
Have a beautiful week,

Friends In Faith Weekly Updates 4.23.07

Hi! Happy Monday!

Yesterday we had a nice, big class discussion, fueled by Donut Cutter (thanks to the Baker's). We hope you'll join us next week as we continue to talk about the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount. Interesting, important stuff. We were wondering if the Dresdens might be coming and if they'll consider sponsoring breakfast, since they missed their sign-up a few weeks ago?? (Not to call you out or anything.)

We also talked about a lot of upcoming events:

Girls/guys night out
The greening of Detroit - Urban farming or plant a tree?? See rofumfriends.org for details
Church Conference

Friends In Faith Weekly Updates 4.16.07

Hi all!
We had a great discussion in class yesterday about the characters and events in the book of Matthew - specifically about John the Baptist. Hopefully you can make it next week as we discuss chapter 3. The Baker's are on breakfast duty, so you know it will be yum.

Speaking of the Bakers - have you seen all the Hope Closet publicity? I hear the program is widely being enjoyed this year and it sounds like many of our FIF's had a great time outfitting girls on opening day. There is still time for you to volunteer this week and help girls find the prom dress of their dreams, or to help clean up. Check out the contact directory at our website to give Emily a call if you're interested in signing up. Perhaps she'll update us on openings and needs if she has time.

Hi Friends-
I hope you are all outside enjoying the glorious weather instead of reading this!

This week, we started chapter one in our study books, and discussed the first chapter of Matthew. We will resume chapter 2 the week after Easter. Don't forget, there is no class this Sunday or next - Spring Break!

A big, fat thank you to Anthony for putting on a crazy-fun road rally for us this Sunday. Boys against girls, it was more of a fair match than you'd think. And thank you also for preparing the scrumptious lunch.

Now, who wants to sponser April's activity? It could be a social event or a service project. If you haven't organized a group event in a while, we're counting on you! Please send us your good ideas, and we'll be sure to participate.

Friends In Faith Weekly Updates 3.15.07

Heya FIFers,

J & J are out of town this week so I'm doing the belated weekly update. Liz
and I were singing with the choir in the first service, but were back to
normal this week, so we're going to finish up the DVD this week.

Also don't forget this weekend is 263rd annual (or something like that)
ROFUM Dinner Concert to Support Choir Camp. It's this Saturday night 6:30
and Sunday afternoon at 4:00. This year we're taking a different approach
with a wide variety of acts, not just Sanctus choir. I've already seen a
lot of them and they're really great!

Also, don't forget The Detroit Lutheran Singers concerts coming up over

Hi friends,
Sorry for the delay. I hope you're all having a good week.

Josh wrote a recap of last week's class, and some announcements about next class. I'll post it here, and you will also be able to find these updates in the future at rofumfriends.org.
From Josh:
We had planned to watch a DVD this week but since it hasn't arrived yet, we
did something else. As a follow-up to our study of psalms in over the past
weeks, we took at look at some randomly assigned poetical passages from
elsewhere in the Bible. We looked at passages from Exodos, Amos, Isaiah,
Job, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Luke, and even some passages from the

Friends In Faith Weekly Udates 2.19.07

Howdy!

Thanks again to Josh and Liz for planning the fun and well-attended group date night on Saturday. It was good to catch up with so many of you and even to meet a new friend.

In case you weren't around this weekend, this week's big news: Jim and I are having a baby too! As you can see, there's something in the FIF water. Consider yourself warned ;)

Pretty soon (like in 2 weeks), we'll be starting our next study guide in class. I'll post a link on our website for easy ordering. Next week, you will definitely want to be in class because Josh ordered a cool video - and you won't want to miss it. I don't think anyone is signed up for breakfast duty that day though, so you may want to eat before coming.

Friends In Faith Weekly Updates 2.12.07

Hi all-
We haven't been able to be in church the last two weeks, so I apologize for falling behind on any late-breaking news.

I do know, however, that we have a group date night planned for this Saturday in Madison Heights. Dinner, Movie, Dessert - one, two or all three. Just be sure to RSVP to Josh's evite, so we know when and where to look for you. Also, feel free to suggest a movie if you plan on going.

If I missed other important announcements, reply to the group and keep us up to speed.

Happy hearts day!
Jessica

Hi Friends-
Thanks to so many of you for participating in (and organizing) the Middle School Clue party. It was hilarious to see you in costume, I must admit. Hopefully Caroline will share a picture. We got a report from a parent and middle schooler yesterday about how great it was. Good job!

Don't forget the big superbowl party at Michael and Heather's is this Sunday. Fair warning, there will be lots of personal agendas at this party since the two teams are from the home states of four of our FIF's. Trust me, you don't want to miss the excitement.

Josh has a new fun "Valentines" activity for the group. Set aside the evening of Feb. 17th for a good old-fashioned group date with cheese on the side. Look for more details from Josh soon.

Hello,

In case you weren't in class, or just need a reminder... Please let Josh, Liz or Caroline know if you are interested in helping out with the middle school Clue party on Friday, Jan. 26th at 7:30 PM. They could use people to play a character or help escort the kids around "ROFUM Manor". It should be fun!

Our breakfast sheet is filling in nicely. We still need sign-ups for the following days:
Jan 21

Feb 11, 18, 25

March 11, 18, 25

April 22, 29

May 13, 20

If you would be willing to provide breakfast on a couple of those days, please let me know which and I will write you in. The sheet will be posted in our classroom to help remind you of your chosen dates.

Happy New Year!

Our next gathering is scheduled for this Saturday at Barts in Ferndale for Breakfast. Looking forward to seeing you there! If you can't find the evite, there are details on our website: rofumfriends.org

We will resume class on Sunday and hopefully fill up the sign-up sheet for future breakfast duty!

Also, thanks to all of you who helped meet our financial goal of $24/month for our Christian Children's Fund child, Francisco. With an average attendance of just 6 people per week in class, we only need to donate $1 each per class to meet this goal. I hope you will continue to support Francisco in 2007 and remember to bring your dollar or pocket change to class each week. It is such a simple way to make a big difference and be good servants of Christ!

Hi Friends-

Thanks to the Bakers for providing breakfast yesterday, and to the Dresden's for volunteering for next week. And thanks to all of you for yet another fun Wild Elephant party! My farting Santa makes me so happy. You don't even know.

As for this week,

Get your tune on.
Check out the Ars Nova Christmas concert in RO at the Church on Main on Saturday evening. Liz will be singing - and it's free! If you'd like more details, email myself of Liz.

Join us for the last class of 2006 next Sunday!
We will discuss unit 3 in our books. We will eat food from Michael and Heather's completely new kitchen. I mean does it even get better than that?
